Hakka people are a Han Chinese sub-ethnic group who settled in parts of China, including Hong Kong. The fa tai, or “patterned band”, is a personal adornment worn by Hakka women. These bands carry cultural significance, as they are often given as wedding gifts, demonstrating honour. In the guidebook and poster campaign, the shapes of the symbols reflect both the grid patterns of band weaving and the inherent imperfections of this handicraft.
